#PFWA: Meet your top 6: WHO JOINS THE HALL OF FAME?

September 29th, 2013 will see MTN Project Fame West Africa 6.0 come to and. This year, 16 musical hopefuls joined the academy looking to walk home with the prize money of 5million naira, a SUV and a recording contract, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th also have prizes to take home. For the past 8 weeks, we have watched these contestants get professional training by members of the Faculty which include voice coaching, song writing performances, mentoring by past winners and MTN brand ambassadors, etc.
They have also received accolades and constructive criticism from the judges on Nomination/ Elimination show. We have watched judges and Faculty disagree and sometimes agree on contestants performances.
We have said goodbye to some of our favourites as they got eliminated from the show making way for the 6 finalists. Gabbie, Lady J and L took a look at our top 6 contestants and also try to pick the winner of the show ( From our point of view of course). Let us also know your choice and what you think of the show so far.

IMMACULATE

GABBIE :  Right from her very first performance (Alexander Burke’s Hallelujah)  she had me. Immaculate has a powerful voice but what makes her the complete package is her presence on stage! Immaculate more often than not commanded attention on stage with her vivacious personality. She has performed songs from Monica, Aretha Franklyn, Joyce Sims, Brenda Fassie, Chaka Khan….. etc. My most memorable performance from Immaculate has to be Aretha Franklyn’s RESPECT. She also had great fun performing Brenda Fassie’s Vulindela, Monica’s Tomorrow, Alica Keys, If I don’t got you.
Prediction: She is a big contender for the top spot.

LADY J: Immaculate had me at her first note so I'm pretty excited that she's here today, her being a part of the top 6 isn't exactly a surprise as she has been one of the most consistent contestants of the season. She grew from strength to strength as the weeks progressed, the most outstanding thing about immaculate is her ability to immerse her self in whatever song she's performing not to mention her great voice and the way she moves that big body. She has been a delight to watch in the last weeks and has definitely earned her spot. This sister understands show biz and knows how to get her audience excited, She's got a great chance at success and is very likely to be on our tv/radio for a while.
Prediction: finishes top 2.

L: I didn't notice Immaculate initially, i think it took about 2 to 3 weeks before i did. Immaculate is brilliant, very hard working, her vocals are on point. She makes being big look so good. Her Charisma is top notch, She can sing, she can perform, she can dance. I'm really excited she made it this far, she fought really hard to be here. My favourite performance  is 'Tomorrow by Monica Ogar', I liked her duet with Praiz too, she killed it, the memories are vivid. She's sellable.
Prediction: If there's any justice in the world, She should win the 1st position.

OMOLAYO .

GABBIE:  With a total of ten songs performed on PFWA 6.0 stage, Omolayo has shown growth through the course of this competition. Singing songs by artists’ like Barry White, Burna Boy, Hot chocolate, light house family to name a few.  He was able to get votes that have seen him throught to the finale. My high points of Omolayo in PFWA 6.0 is definitely his rendition of Ebenezer Obey’s Gbo Temi. He had full control of the song and performance with really good connection with the crowd. The duet with Roland also makes this list. It was an exciting performance and also the moment I started to like Omolayo.

LADY J: One thing I really admire about Omolayo is his zeal to grow. He came into this competition determined to make the best of the opportunity and he has blossomed beautifully. He has a great voice and a wide range and isn't afraid to showcase it. His song writing is far from palatable though
Prediction: finishes 3rd.

L: Omolayo is my second favourite after Simon. Let me start by highlighting his wonderful qualities. Omolayo is humble, he's respectful, very meek, always willing to learn, ready to listen. Omolayo came into the academy without confidence, he probably left it in Ilorin. From nowhere, he came out strongly, he became very confident on stage, even in his day to day activities. Omolayo has a strong voice. My best performance has to be 'Ebenezer Obey's Gbo temi', dude murdered, slaughtered and killed that performance. I have a soft spot for him and i really want him to succeed.
Prediction: 2nd or 3rd.

OLAWALE.

GABBIE:  Popularly referred to as small but mighty!  Olawale has a really unique voice and can go ranges with it. Olawale’s journey started as one with a shy personality and rarely connected with his audience but all these are in the past. We have a confident talented singer in his place. High Point would definitely be Solo Makinde & Consolidation by KWAM 1. Maybe Fuji is what Olawale’s should be doing. Also loved his Duet Street corner by Ashford and Simpson with Nini. I think Olawale has a good chance of taking this home, He has a huge fan base.

LADY J: Olawale is another contestant who I find very interesting. His personal composition stood out for me.  He has been pretty consistent and has performed above average for most part of the competition.
  Prediction: finishes 3rd, 4th

L: Olawale is good, he's been very consistent. Even though i feel he's also the luckiest and most favoured in the academy in terms of song choices. They give him songs that are so appealing to his voice. I feel Olawale's fan base increased after Simon's exit, which is also an advantage. His vocals are good, he's a performer, he loves dancing. But, erm, erm, there's something i.... Never mind.
Prediction: 2nd or 3rd or even 1st.

ROLAND

GABBIE:  This is transformation at its best. Roland entered this competition as a naive and shy person, unaware of a lot of things. Today, we don’t see that Roland anymore.  Roland took to every correction/criticism by the Judges and worked on it to improve himself. The result is the Roland performing a Mike Okri song and dancing with no ounce of shyness. It has been a really rewarding time for Roland at the academy. My top Roland performance is the duet with Omolayo: Bebe and Cece’s I’ll take you there. It was all sorts of awesome.

LADY J: Roland is also another very determined contestant who is amazingly talented vocally but probably doesn't have the mainstream personality to win project fame. In a competition full of vivacious, dynamic and niche singers, I think he doesn't stand out. He's extremely hardworking and I hope good things find him when he exits the show.
Prediction: finishes 4th or 5th.

L: Never knew i liked Roland so much till that elimination night where i prayed the contestants saved him instead of my best man, Simon. Roland has to be the most amiable contestant, very humble and extremely hard working. We saw Roland grow every week, for a guy who came into the academy ignorant of a lot. Roland never heard of 'Usher' until he entered the academy. Most of the songs he performed weekly he didn't even know. Roland is very positive. Good composure on stage, lovely vocals too. I think the only reason he was on probation weekly is because he's too spiritual for this sinful  world/voters. His best performance, the bebe and Cece Winans song with Omolayo, Gotham city and of course, the Mike Okri's song.
Prediction: I hope he takes 4th or even a better position, i see a surprise.

MARGARET

GABBIE:  has to be the underdog of PFWA 6.0. Margaret has never been on probation (except for the times the judges’ put everyone on probation). She has done a good job coasting along just fine. Margaret hasn't had an outright bad performance. Naturally with a high voice range, she started off not knowing how to project without shouting. However, we see this has been curbed. With performances like Mafikizolo’s Khona, Shabba Ranks’ Mr lover man, Cher’s Believe, Sade’s Smooth Operator etc, Margaret has shown steady growth in the academy. High Point of her time in the academy (for me) has to be last week’s performance of  Titanium – David Guetta and the Beneath your beautiful duet with fellow contestant David. I see her as the 3rd.

LADY J: Margaret Cephas has strong vocals, good looks and an appeal to the voters which could help her win Project Fame. She is the only contestant who has never been on probation, this attests to her popularity among voters. She arguably is the contestant who has done the most daring songs from Mafikilozo's Khona to Titanium to Dionne Warwick's Walk on. Margaret has proven to be versatile and should be highly successful if she works with the right people/market
Prediction: finishes top 2.

L: First of all, Margaret is very marketable, she looks like a star. For the love of God, i need to understand how and why she was never on probation. Don't bother explaining. Maggie ( my nickname for her) is very good, after Immaculate she has the strongest voice. She's had great performances, sometimes shaky. Liberians should be very proud of her. I see her going places. Maggie finished me with her 'Titanium' performance. That performance was tooooooooooooooo good.
Prediction: 3rd to 4th or even 5th.

NINIOLA

GABBIE: Through the competition, She is one person I did not expect would make the top six but as fate would have it, she is here. Nini’s journey has been good. She performed songs with high pitches a lot and has done a pretty good job with some as she has a nice texture to her voice as well. Most memorable of Nini’s performances are Angelique Kidjo’s Agolo and the duet with Olawale.

LADY J: Niniola has been relatively below par among the top 6 but her looks and stage presence stand her out and she will stick in people's minds for a long while. Her last performances have shown me that she's the singer with a body and the will to flaunt it. She's got an amazing voice and could be the surprise break out of the season (post Project fame)
Prediction: finishes 6th.

L: Niniola came into the academy as a strong contender, whatever happened after the 3rd week, i seriously don't know. She's been average and i know she's got a good voice and the potential to be very great. My best performance of Nini happened long long long time ago, the opening ceremony.
Prediction: I don't see her beyond 6th, ok! let me say 5th position.

FINAL THOUGHTS

GABBIE.

My ideal 3 are Olawale, Immaculate and Margaret. Here's wishing the Top Six the best of luck! May the best Man win!
 LADY J.

Season 6 of Project Fame has been great, however, I think the contestants on this season have been below par when compared with those from previous seasons. They haven't left me with moments when I literally do a slide or have my jaw in my hands because I'm faced with greatness that I can't comprehend. No, not even one such moment.
Away from my ranting, those who have watched Project Fame (and most competitions) in the past, will agree that the voters don't always get it right- meaning sometimes people win for their personalities even if their talent doesn't necessarily surpass that of the other contestants. This being said, my preferred top 4 will be Margaret, Immaculate, Omolayo, Olawale or Roland. (In no particular order)
P.S.... I love you Nini :)

L.
It's been a great show so far, not my favourite season in terms of performances and contestants. In terms of costume, production and directing, it's been the best. MTN Project fame is the best Music talent show in Nigeria and even West Africa right now, If you really want to learn the rudiments of music, this is the show to be in. I wish the contestants well. I wanted to see Simon, David and Johnny make it to the very end, unfortunately they fell by the way side. From the deepest part of my heart, I'll love to see Immaculate, Omolayo, Roland and Olawale or Margaret in the top 4.

To avoid biting of fingers and sadness by sunday, please vote your favourite contestants.
Nini - 13
Omolayo -2
Margaret- 12.
Olawale -14
Roland- 16.
Immaculate -8
Send the numbers to 306 if you're in Lagos, Sierra Leone and Liberia and send to 1745 if you live in Ghana. Remember, just the nos.
